Week 6 Reading Notes: The Voyages of Sindbad, Part A

"Sindbad the Sailor" Source

This story is told from the first-person point of view from Sindbad himself. I personally love these types of stories. They give the reader a lot to unpack and are full of information. Sindbad starts his story as he is aboard a ship that has set sail. They stop at various islands to sell and purchase things. The crew stopped at an island and dropped sail to rest for a while, but the island was actually the back of a sleeping whale and the crew scurried to get back aboard.
In all of the chaos, Sindbad was left alone in the water as the ship left him behind. Sindbad clung onto a piece of the broken ship and was fortunate to drift to a nearby island in the morning. He searched the island for food and found some herbs and water. He searched the island some more and found a horse that was tethered and heard voices across the way when he saw a man appear. The man asked Sindbad how he got to the island.
Sindbad explained his misfortune and the man invited him back to a cave with some other men. The men explained to Sindbad that this was one of the only times that they would be on the island and that he is fortunate that he had not yet made it to the inhabited part of the island.
